This was a personal sewing project. My cousin didn't have a backpack going into his first day of pre-school and was incredibly sad about it. I decided to use some of the leftover Cordura that I had from a few of my school projects and I made him a backpack. This was the final product, equipped with two adjustable straps and a front pocket. I am proud of this backpack because it was the first piece I constructed without the help of a pattern given to me at school.
This is a soft shell jacket with the outer layer made of a Supplex material and the inner layer made of a Nylon Tafeta. I made this jacket with the idea of using it as a mid-layer jacket. I made many alterations to the original pattern. I had to adjust all the pattern pieces so it would fit me the way I wanted it to, the quilting pattern was an additional alteration that I decided to add, and I shortened the collar because I felt the original collar design was much too tall. I was dissapointed in the orange color. I ordered the Supplex online and unfortunately the color looked much different online than it did in real life. Other than that I am happy with this jacket, it challenged me in many ways. Now that I have made this first jacket, I now know what I would like in other jackets that I will make in the future.
These are hiking/climbing pants that are made of 100% organic cotton. This project I really wanted to focus on the sustainability aspect of clothing construction, so I researched textiles and decided the most eco-friendly material to create a pair of hiking pants would be organic cotton. I really like these pants, they fit me well and I wear them often. I made many alterations to the original pattern of these pants. I lengthened the inseam and also brought in the waist so they would fit me the way I wanted. I added and elastic waist as opposed to belt loops because I like elastic waists when I am climbing. I also added elastic around the ankles. I also added the cargo pockets in the front of the pants because I don't own a pair of cargo pants and I have always wanted a pair. Overall I am very happy with these pants and look forward to making more pants for various activities in the future.
